Day 31-32
Day 31-32
14 January 2012
Nice cozy futons made for a good night’s sleep. We greeted a typically gray Portland day. we hosed the Streetlow trail mud off the bikes while the weather was decent. Phyllis took us downtown to visit the iconic Powell’s bookstore. Despite the unbelievable selection of books available for perusal, I spent most of my time people watching. Must be my photographic training. A fascinating (to me at least) slice of Portlanders filled the stacks. Old/young, cool/nerds, hairy/clean shaven, tattoed/pierced, baggy/tight pants, a plethora of hat, shoe, and glasses styles, but all readers. Bought a couple of books for O and deferred on a couple that I liked.
Phyllis gave us a nice tour of local landmarks on our way home. Lots of bike shops of course. Noticed that regional differences often show up in the names of restaurants. Would anybody back east go to Claim Jumper for a meal?
We caught the exciting conclusion of the Niners/Saints game on our way to get some croissants and a baguette at a French bakery in Lake Oswego. Then Owen and I watched most of the first half of the Patriots/Broncos game. Didn’t return after our dinner at halftime as it became pretty clear that Brady was carving up Denver and Tebow.
On Sunday, Owen went for a hilly run in the AM. Then we caught a little of the Texan/Ravens game and went over to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the Packers/Giants game on a big screen while having a late lunch.
We finished the day with another home cooked meal and lots of conversation.
